Teaching experience

Fonie has been tutoring since secondary school, supporting students in English and History. Having attended the University of Oxford, Fonie has been regularly enlisted by teachers to help students from different schools in Athens with their university applications.

Fonie grew up helping her younger brother (with ADD) who was struggling through his classes; now studying politics in the US, she still helps with his coursework, though he has far surpassed her.

She believes the most effective way to learn is by getting excited about the material, and by overcoming a sense of imposter syndrome and a lack of confidence. A large component of this is encouraging students’ ambitions, despite the perception they do not fit a certain moiuld. Having the tools to master the syllabus is key, but so is being flexible and attuned to individual needs.

Fonie is a journalist and fiction writer published in Prospect, Sky News, and POLITICO, amongst other publications, focusing primarily on politics. Having worked on the editorial team at Penguin Press, where she helped publish titles ranging from art, history, politics and economics, Fonie is versatile and well-placed to support students in essays-writing for a variety of subjects.
