Teaching Experience

With a qualified background in youth leadership, as well as extensive one-to-one experience, Jake is a deeply personable educator who is able to cater his teaching to a variety of cognitive and accessibility requirements, whilst also nurturing genuine and authentic pedagogical relationships rooted in a tailored, but holistic, philosophy of learning. He has both tutored privately, resulting in a significant uptick in students’ grade achievements in public examinations, whilst also participating in a range of outreach schemes throughout his time at university, including both as a Downing College Ambassador and as a representative of the Cambridge University Access and Outreach Society (CUAOS). Jake has thus helped several students, from both Independent and State School backgrounds, to win places to study at Oxbridge and beyond.

Having worked with students at varying stages of their academic career, Jake has accumulated a plethora of educative tools, enabling him to maximise the potential of students no matter the issues they may face through a dedicated and lateral approach to learning. By forging trust-based relationships, with a particular focus on clarity of thought and argumentation, Jake directly challenges his students in ways that they will not experience in the classroom, whilst bolstering their autonomy of critical thought so as to ensure their long-lasting intellectual development. Above all else, Jake wishes to see his students flourish both inside and outside of the classroom, providing unwavering patience and encouragement along the way.

Jake also has a background in working with SEND students and therefore welcomes enquiries for private SEND tuition.

Extra-curricular Interests

Beyond his academic pursuits, Jake is extremely passionate about the Arts. Throughout his school and university career, Jake has performed in a wide variety of theatrical productions, discovering at Cambridge a particular proclivity for new student writing that took him all the way to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as a performer. His acting career also involved performing in the prestigious Marlowe Society’s Graduating Actor’s Showcase, which provided him with direct industry exposure through which he was offered professional representation. Jake now looks to build on his experiences as an actor and is pursuing a career in literary development, seeking to facilitate the development of new and impactful stories, working with the storytellers behind them to push the boundaries of culture.

In his spare time, Jake continues to exercise his passion for the Arts, regularly consulting the ever-growing notes page on his phone for the latest cultural recommendation he has amassed, whether it be a new recipe, classic novel, or exciting piece of music (Jake studied the cello in school, reaching Grade 6 proficiency (ABRSM)). He may also be found running regularly, training for half-marathons, as well as playing and closely following the sport of tennis, having served as Downing College Tennis Captain in his second year at University.
