Teaching Experience
James is a Classics (Latin, Classical Greek, Ancient History) teacher and assistant housemaster at a leading independent boarding and day school in the United Kindgdom. He has taught at two boarding schools, guiding pupils to success in GCSE, A Level, and IB examinations in the full range of classical subjects. He has also had roles as an EPQ supervisor, Oxbridge preparation tutor, and academic scholar mentor.
James has also worked full time as a private tutor, tutoring across a range of age groups and subjects. His tutees have ranged from beginner to undergraduate level. James’ tutees have benefited from his clear, engaging teaching style, excellent preparation, and responsiveness to individual needs. He draws on a wealth of classroom and tutoring experience to ensure rapid, sustainable progress and builds students’ confidence by fostering a supportive, tailored learning environment.

Outside of teaching, James enjoys playing the piano and violin, singing in choirs, and learning German. Whilst at Cambridge, he served as Deputy Editor of the student papers The Cambridge Student and The Porter’s Log. He has a keen interest in the arts and regularly attends galleries, plays, recitals, and operas. An active individual, he also enjoys hiking and playing cricket. He is deeply involved in school life, coaching sports teams and supporting student debating.
